Victoria & Alex our competition winners

Alex and Victoria were the lucky winners of our competition to win wedding stationery- launched in Feb 2014. Victoria knew our greetings cards well having bought them for many years in card shops, especially Valentines cards for her husband. She registered online with our wedding web site and entered our completion never expecting to win. When she received the email about winning she was simply amazed and extremely pleased.

Five Dollar Shake Weddings were delighted to be able to produce the stationery for Alex and Victoria’s special day. They have kindly consented for us to share their special moments with some stunning photos of the day and in her own words below Victoria helps set the scene.

Alex proposed two and a half years ago after I had finished my university final exams. He lived up in Kendal and took me to my favourite place Tarn Hows in the Lake District. We went for a quiet walk around the tarn and then took me to one side and proposed. It was a total surprise. He did it the traditional way asking my dad but I never realised it was all happening until the day. That morning my sister also rang the house and I have never seen him grab the phone as fast! There were quite a few tell tale signs and I almost caught sight of the ring in the glove box of his car, but he quickly closed it and as I said I was totally unaware of it all! It was perfect.

We looked at quite a few venues. Originally we wanted a marquee wedding, really low key but after going to a wedding open day at our venue there was no contest. We like our country style and the outdoors so after seeing our venue we knew that was the right place to get married.

The dress I had was one of the last ones I saw. I did get very confused trying on quite a few. I wanted a vintage looking dress that was not too full. My dress, even though it wasn't what I set out to get exactly, felt right when I tried it on. It was a gold/oyster colour and had lace effect all over it. It sounds cliche but when I tried it on I knew I had the right dress for me.

The venue was Eaves Hall in Waddington, Clitheroe. It is a Georgian mansion exclusively for weddings and they catered for all our needs. Everything we wanted they made a reality for us. We couldn't have asked for a better wedding venue which ticked all our boxes. It was a rural theme. I wanted guests to feel relaxed so tried to reflect that in the decor and style which really worked with the look of Eaves Hall. I got a lot of ideas from Pinterest and searching on the Internet. If there was anything I could make, I attempted to!

We ended up having a November wedding for a number of reasons. Firstly bookings at the venue. Secondly cost. We did pay less for our wedding than we would have done in Summer but actually we were really lucky with the weather. We got married in a 13th century chapel with no electricity so I was worried people would be cold, but after everyone was in, the place warmed up. Just as I was approaching the church the sun came out. Even if the weather had been bad, I hope we wouldn't have let it spoil our day! I think you make it what it is!

We got most ideas from doing a mood board with our florist Jane at Flower Design. We had a rough idea of what we wanted but it helped to put it all in place.  We looked on the Internet for ideas. Our home style did reflect a lot of ideas which gave us plenty of inspiration. All of the companies we used also helped reflect the style we wanted with our wedding. We were ecstatic about everything we saw.

We knew about Five Dollar Shake from many years of buying cards in shops, especially Valentines cards for my husband. We have always loved their unique designs and customisation. When looking for wedding stationary, we went on the website for ideas. We saw the competition on the website and thought to apply. I had applied to many competitions for the wedding but never expected to win. When I received the email about winning I was simply amazed and extremely pleased. It was nice to know I had Five Dollar Shake doing my wedding stationary.

Everybody's reaction to the stationary was great. It fitted with our theme perfectly and did exactly what we wanted. The look and customisation was perfect.

We would absolutely recommend Five Dollar Shake to anyone getting married. Caroline and her team sorted everything out for me and gave me the stationary look I wanted without any issues. We would like to say thank you again as everything was made to perfection for us.
